When they got to New York she told the New York Times that Robert Hichens was a coward and a bully and this awful person and that stuck with him for over 100 years. She was trying to get him to go back for survivors but they were a mile away from Titanic, she said. ![]() Ms Nilsson, who has also written a book on her great-grandfathers life, says Hichens was vilified as a coward and a bully after the disaster due to his fierce argument aboard Lifeboat 6, where he was threatened with being thrown overboard by American socialite and philanthropist Margaret Mollie Brown.īorn in Cornwall, Mr Hichens was a fisherman in his early life and came on to the Titanic with 12 years experience at sea.
